E3: Bethesda showcases Dishonored 2, Quake Champions
June 13, 2016

Bethesda has a bit of everything at this year’s E3. They kicked off their second annual E3 showcase by debuting the world premiere cinematic teaser for the latest entry in the Quake franchise. Quake Champions, the first iteration in the series since 2007’s Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. The brief cinematic showed space marines and brutal aliens trading fire while utilizing what looked to be character specific buffs to gain an edge in battle. More information on Quake Champions will be disclosed during Bethesda’s upcoming Quake Con convention later in August.
After the reveal, Pete Heinz, Bethesda’s VP of PR and Marketing went on to briefly summarize Bethesda’s accomplishments since their last press conference in 2015 such as the critical acclaim of the recently released Doom.
Elder Scrolls: Legends, Bethesda’s upcoming free to play card tactics game was then made the centre of attention. Some of the game’s intricacies were discussed, as well as the Story Mode in which gamers will be presented “world altering decisions”. Legends will be coming to mobile devices, as well as the Mac and PC later in 2016.
Following Elder Scrolls: Legends, Todd Howard, the director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, took to the screen to announce the future of Fallout 4 after a brief minute or two of reflecting on Fallout 4’s popularity and thanking fans worldwide for their support. Howard debuted three new add-ons for the title. Contraptions Workshop, Vault-Tec Workshop and Nuka-World were introduced along with brief trailers for each. The two new Workshop centric DLC’s unsurprisingly focus primarily on the base-building and crafting components of Fallout 4. The Contraptions workshop allows players to let their creativity roam unrestricted by providing the ability to create Rube Goldberg-esque contraptions while the Vault-Tec workshop allows players the ability to create their very own Vault-Tec vault. Thankfully, for those looking for a more narrative-driven experience, The Nuka-World DLC looks to scratch that itch when it releases this August. The Contraptions Workshop will be going live next week and the Vault-Tec Workshop in July.
Todd also revealed that Bethesda had been hard at work on the long requested facelift to the 2011 classic, The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim. The re-master touts polished environments, new shaders and a bevy of more technical upgrades, as well as mod support on consoles. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition is set to release this October.
Bethesda premiered a reboot to 2006’s sci-fi thriller “Prey” is in development via a cinematic trailer. The reboot, which is being developed by Arkane Studios, incorporates elements of psychological horror and follows Morgan Yu, a willing subject of some rather questionable experiments. Prey is set to release in 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The Elder Scrolls: Online will offer a future update in which all players, regardless of level would be available to party-up and explore previously level-restricted areas of the game's world. Furthermore, a DLC pack entitled "Dark Brotherhood" will involve the titular cult that appeared in previous Elder Scrolls titles. Dark Brotherhood will be available for console players June 14th, while PC players have been able to enjoy the content already.
Dishonoured 2 was once again present during Bethesda's conference this year. A lengthy gameplay demo was shown and more light was shed on the new abilities and motivations of the two protagonists of the title: Corvo, the original's protagonist and Emily Kaldwin, a name familiar to Dishonoured fans. The two must travel to the coastal city of Karnaca fifteen years after the events of the first game to once again make the best their talents for either noble or selfish ends.
Graphically, Dishonoured looks impressive as great attention has gone into the titles presentation. Both lighting and environments look better than ever and greatly utilize the power of next-gen consoles. Here's hoping this vertical slice isn't too off the mark. Dishonored 2 is set to release November 11th, 2016.
Other announcements throughout the conference included VR Support for Doom and Fallout 4 as well as multiple creation updates for Doom's multiplayer mode such as, new maps, weaponry, items and more.
